Hi! I’m Emily Gonzales. I founded Deliberate House because deliberately is how I try to live, too. I have spent over a decade managing my own household through routines, reflections, and systems. I have been a non-profit director, project manager at a consulting firm, an applied mathematician and computer programmer, and a bunch of different volunteer roles in Englewood. I saw how successful organizations and companies use their mission and vision statements, and I believe our homes need a similar north star.

I live in a small 1950’s ranch, so my focus on essentialism started, at first, out of necessity. Then, I saw that my deliberate and organized approach meant it was easier to drag that paddleboard out of the garage and enjoy one of my favorite hobbies; it meant the kids could find and put away their LEGOs and art supplies on their own, and it meant I felt less frazzled driving to and from youth gymnastics and then home for dinner. Honestly, the better I am at deliberately setting up our home, at decluttering the excess, and being picky about our commitments, the better we all live together. If you know my family and me, you know we aren’t perfect (very far from it), but you hopefully also see that we try to cut out the unnecessary and show up fully as much as possible, based on the values we set for our family.

And now I’m working to help people like you steer their homes according to their values and intentions. I know what it’s like to be a busy mom, the daughter of aging parents, and a professional. We need to be choosy about how we spend our energy.
